The development and creation of this bike was a secretive affair to say the least, with Canadian brand Cervelo keeping news of the bike’s progress close to its chest for a long time. When the curtain was finally raised on this new addition to the Cervelo family, it was clear that this was more than an updated bike and in fact emerged as an entirely unique model. Hydraulic disc brakes and a low centre of gravity combine to shape a bike which provides the confidence to explore gravel roads, with the assurance of immense stopping capabilities should trouble arise. A smooth ride comes primarily thanks to the bike’s geometry, while the frame itself remains reactive in the face of any immediate responses required.

Specialized S-WORKS Venge ViAS - £9,000

Poised to steal the show for many, Specialized's latest creation is the stealthy looking Venge ViAS, a £9,000 build intended to be the fastest bike in the world. Utilising its unique Venge Integrated Aero System to contribute towards an aggressive riding position, the Aerofly cockpit aims to boost aerodynamic prowess yet further still. With reigning World Champion Peter Sagan flying the flag for the Venge ViAS in 2016’s WorldTour, there is bound to be plenty of drama this year involving this machine’s successes.

Much has gone into ensuring the Air 9.9 is a ruthlessly fast bike, making the most of aerodynamic design and development, in order to streamline it as much as possible; even taking components from its sister range of time trial bikes. Wireless shifting is present here thanks to the SRAM eTap groupset, placing this at the front of the pack in regards to its likely market rivals. The T9 fork incorporates an integrated front brake into its design to improve air flow over the bike yet further still, an example of the level of detail which Boardman has kept in mind throughout the design process. The Air 9.9 is certainly built for speed and will catch the eye of anyone interested in racing during 2016.

Focus Izalco Max Disc - £3,299

Fast climbing, lightweight and responsive, the Focus Izalco Max Disc puts to bed all the assumptions that often haunt road bikes equipped with disc brakes. The additional weight for running this system is of no issue here, remaining impressively fast on both flat roads and mountain climbs, possessing a serious kick of acceleration to call upon whenever necessary. It sails down descents with ease and calls upon its disc brakes to maximize braking efficiency when dropping like a stone.
