Fabian Cancellara has received a special edition Madone for the Tour and we were there while the mechanics built it.

As a celebration of Fabian Cancellara’s final Tour de France, Trek has produced a special edition version of its Madone that commemorates his career. We were lucky enough to visit the Trek service course in Deinze as the mechanics built his bike in preparation for the Tour.

The build is no different to usual, although it’s worth noting that Cancellara has a custom handlebar for his Madone. He prefers an ‘ergonomic’ shaped drop and a regular road tops, as the aerodynamic profile shortens his reach.

The special edition Madone is adorned with his palmares on the top tube, including his major victories that mark out his 16-year career. The multitude of coloured blocks is homage to the various jerseys he has worn throughout the years – marked out his various trade teams along with leaders jerseys from stage races. And of course no special edition frame would be complete without his nickname – Spartacus.

We spent quite a bit of time with Trek-Segafredo at their service course, which you can read about in Issue 51 of Cyclist magazine out soon.
